Hammer full of confidence ahead of Panthers clash

Fresh off a much-needed win, Dolphins fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow says the victory has been a crucial boost for the team’s confidence - and his own game.

“It was a good win from the boys, it is a confidence boost, especially coming off four weeks of losses, just to get that win,” Tabuai-Fidow said.

“It shows what we can do as a team; it's a good feeling to have.”

Hammer nails first points

The Dolphins' dynamic No. 1 was back to his electric best, bringing energy and involvement from the opening whistle.

He expressed that he kept it simple, played freely and enjoyed the game.

“I just had the mindset to go out and play footy, not to overthink things.”

“When I play freely, I play better, and it was good to get involved early and get my touches up.”

The key to the recent improvement has been the increased connection among the Dolphins' spine.

Tabuai-Fidow praised the team's preparations and communication.

“We worked on being connected and trusting each other.

Throughout the week, we were talking and using each other more, and it showed on the field.”

As the Dolphins prepare to face reigning Premiers Penrith, Tabuai-Fidow welcomes the challenge.

“They're a quality side.

“It’s a big game, but the win last weekend has given us confidence.

“We’ll go out there, give it our all, and enjoy the challenge.”

With a strong performance expected from halfback Isaiya Katoa, who will go head-to-head with Nathan Cleary, Tabuai-Fidow is confident his teammate will rise to the occasion.

“He’s an excitement machine,” Hammer said of Katoa.

“When the big games come, he steps up and we’re all behind him.”

The return of skipper Tom Gilbert from his one game ban also adds to the experience and drive of the squad.

“He’s the leader we need out there.”

“He works hard, goes all day, and brings that leadership.

“It’s great to have him back.”

With memories from last year's golden-point heartbreaker against Penrith still fresh, the Dolphins are hungry to make a statement.

“It's a big match, and we are all up for it.

“They’re a side that will go for the full 80 minutes, so we need to put in an 80-minute performance ourselves.”
