Match Report - Dolphins v Broncos

The much-anticipated Battle for Brisbane, the biggest game in club rugby league, delivered a thrilling spectacle as the Dolphins secured a commanding 40-6 victory over the Broncos.

This emphatic win not only marks the Dolphins' first-ever triumph over their cross-town rivals but also serves as a step forward in securing their first-ever finals football.

Match Report

The match's opening stages saw both teams locked in a tense battle, with neither side able to break the deadlock in the first 10 minutes.

The Dolphins were the first to strike, with winger Jamayne Isaako diving into the corner to open the scoring in the 13th minute. Four minutes later, the Dolphins were reduced to 12 men, with enforcer Felise Kaufusi being sin-binned.

In a show of resilience, Jake Averillo crossed the try line, extending the Dolphins' lead to 12-0 despite their disadvantage. The Broncos, eager to capitalise on their extra man, found some rhythm, as Patrick Carrigan powered over in the 24th minute to put his team on the board.

Dolphins' speedster Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow produced a breathtaking 90-meter counter-strike from a Broncos error, swiftly shifting the momentum back in the Dolphins' favour.

Jake Averillo then capped off a remarkable first-half performance by completing his double, sending the Dolphins into the halftime break with a commanding 24-6 lead.

In the second half, it was the Dolphins who continued to dominate. Herbie Farnworth scored a second-half double, while Tabuai-Fidow added another try to his tally, further stretching the Dolphins' lead to 32 points and securing the win.

Ahead of their final round match-up with the Knights, the Dolphins hold their finals destiny in their own hands. A victory next week would secure their maiden finals appearance.
