Match Review: Dolphins v Rabbitohs

The Dolphins returned to the winner’s circle on Thursday night with a 36-28 victory over the Rabbitohs at Kayo Stadium.

MATCH REPORT

Young winger Jack Bostock made a spectacular return to the side after being sidelined under concussion protocols since round 16. Bostock ran for 272 metres and scored the match's first try, bringing his season tally to 12.

The match also marked a significant milestone for Kenny Bromwich, who made his 250th NRL appearance. Alongside his brother and Dolphins Captain Jesse Bromwich, they became the fifth set of brothers to each play more than 250 NRL games.

With tries from Jack Bostock, Tevita Pangai Junior, and Herbie Farnworth in the first half, the Dolphins led 18-10 heading into the halftime break.

The second half began with Isaiya Katoa setting up his halves partner Kodi Nikorima for a try, following a deft grubber into the in-goal. However, Souths responded with two consecutive tries from Jacob Gagai and Alex Johnston.

The Dolphins returned fire with two more tries of their own. Jack Bostock set up Trai Fuller for a long-range strike down the left-hand flank, and Sean O’Sullivan crossed for a try in his return to the side.

In the final six minutes, the Rabbitohs scored two more tries in desperation, with Alex Johnston notching his second try of the match and Jacob Gagai completing a hat-trick.

Despite the late flurry from the Rabbitohs, the Dolphins held on for an 8-point victory.

“He is unbelievable; his courage and what he does with his body… his tackles tonight were outstanding” is what Dolphins Head Coach Wayne Bennett had to say about Fullback Trai Fuller. Fuller made multiple crucial tackles throughout the game and put in a strong performance with the ball in hand.
